Why Study In Poland?

Poland provides a strong education to prepare students for work in the most demanding labor markets in the world. Poland is a mix of Eastern and Western European culture and geography joining the European Union in 2004 and Schengen in 2007.

Poland has over 400 public and private higher education institutions with distinctive traditions and is internationally recognized. Education in Poland dates to 1364, when the first university was started, the Jagiellonian University of Cracow (the second oldest university of Central Europe). The demanding Polish education system guarantees to deliver the best specialists in their respective fields as it is known that better the specialization, stronger the position in the market. All the universities in Poland boast high-tech laboratories.

LANGUAGE

Poland is ranked 11th among countries and regions based on English skills showing above-average proficiency in English. Learning the Polish language will have its benefits in the country. Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange offers foreign students to participate in free Summer courses of the Polish language and culture.

PART-TIME AND POST-STUDY OPPORTUNITIES

International students can work while studying if they are enrolled in an institution. Non-EU members must hold a valid residency permit. Students will be permitted to work 20 hours per week during studies and 3 months of full-time work is allowed during the holidays

Students from member countries of the European Union may work in Poland without any restrictions after graduation. You do not need a permit to work as a graduate of a Polish higher education institution full-time program. You can stay for a further 2-3 years as long as you have proof of financial support without any government benefits. Students can obtain a work permit after they obtain a job or accept employment.

The universities in the 1800s were heavily controlled and only admitted men. Courses were secretly taught and held in private homes to avoid authorities. Meetings were moved from location to location, earning the name Floating or Flying University. Marie Curie was a graduate who went on to win the Nobel Prize for her work.

Universities are divided into private and public offering Bachelors's, Masters's, and Doctorate degrees. Degrees earned in Poland are internationally recognized offering part-time or full-time programs. Full-time classes during the weekdays help students to spate time to catch up on cultural activities over the weekend. Part-time classes or sessions are held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays several times in the semester as well as evening studies held on weekdays during the afternoons and evenings.

The academic year begins in October and ends Mid-June and has two semesters: winter and summer with one semester lasting 4-5 months. During the exam period, you either pass an exam or get credits through essays, extracurricular or similar activities to advance into the next semester. After graduation, submission of a thesis, and passing the final exam, you will be granted a professional academic degree. Poland adheres to the standards of Bologna and follows the following structure in education:

STUDY CYCLES
FIRST STUDY CYCLE
After finishing the first cycle of studies (3-4 years) you get the professional title license equivalent to a Bachelors's degree. The ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) used in Poland is standard for all universities in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)

SECOND STUDY CYCLE
You will gain the professional title of Master after graduating with a master’s degree of 1.5 to 2 years. This degree concentrates on theoretical knowledge as well as the application and development of creative skills.

LONG STUDY CYCLE
This master’s degree lasts 4.5 to 6 years based on an integrated study program where you will study the basics of your field and in-depth specialization.

THIRD STUDY CYCLE
A Doctorate-level program that lasts 3-4 years after a master’s degree program. It is offered by universities and research institutions. You will have to successfully defend your dissertation and pass a doctoral examination to get this degree.

DIVERSE STUDY OPTION
All universities offer the three degrees taught in English giving you a comprehensive education to prepare students to work in the most advanced and competitive global markets.

Education is free for Polish students but the price of education for international students is far lower than in many other European countries. The fees vary from 2230 USD to 6700 USD depending on the degree, study cycles, and institution, and about 9000 USD to 14,000 USD for MBA programs.
