INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Sub-disciplines
International Development is a concept that denotes the idea that different countries and societies have different levels of economic and human development. It is a sub-discipline of Social Sciences that focuses on improving global wellbeing. International Development as an academic discipline is based on the idea if certain countries perform well in terms of development, the rest of the world will benefit. It is a multi-disciplinary approach that examines the issues affecting developed countries and emerging economies. It encompasses other disciplines like economics, politics, history, international relations, sociology, anthropology, and law.
International Development courses aim at finding sustainable and long-term solutions for problems faced by countries and communities around the world. Studying International Development helps students engage with pressing and relevant issues like global governance, international security, migration, human rights, poverty and inequality, technological advancements, environmental issues, and sustainability. Students are taught how to seek solutions and tackle problems like poverty, malnutrition, sanitation, education, healthcare, and human rights. They will analyze and investigate national and international policies in order to find solutions and help improve situations in developing countries. After completing the course, students will emerge as independent and critical thinkers through their coursework, volunteer work, and internships and go on to explore various successful career options.
