Building and Masonry is the process of constructing structures from individual units that are bound to each other by mortars. The most frequently used materials for masonry construction include bricks, building stones like marbles, granite, and limestone, cast stone, concrete block, glass block, and adobe. This form of construction is very durable as the quality of the mortar, workmanship, and pattern of assembling the units is very high and efficient for the overall construction.
A building is a roofed and walled structure that has been built permanently. Early buildings included leaves, branches, and animal hides but these structures could not provide permanency. Later, the use of more durable natural materials such as clay, stone, and timber, as well as non-natural materials such as bricks, concrete, metals, and plastics, were highly considered for better permanency of the buildings.
Masonry is the art of constructing and confecting in stone, clay, brick, or concrete blocks. It was the early man who discovered the art of masonry through the efforts of sustaining the natural caves with artificial ones created from piles of stones. But it was the Egyptians who came up with a more elaborate stonemasonry technique when they constructed their ancient pyramids.
